Gant stared out his elegant stained glass window, feeling a bit out of it.  He had been practically living in the office for days, but it still felt like he had just entered a few days ago, fresh from his promotion to police chief.  It was strange, how natural the power felt in his hands after over forty years of climbing the police ladder.

Was this how von Karma felt when he was in his office, he wondered, watching the people crawling over the sidewalk below.  Was this why the prosecutor always had confidence crystalizing off his sides as he manipulated the justice system to get another perfect victory?  No matter, he thought smugly.  von Karma would be under his thumb soon, and he'd never have to worry about the prosecutor messing up another perfectly created case (friendship be damned).

The door creaked open behind him.

Of course, first he would need bait.

He turned from his window.  "Hello, Lana," he purred.
